last week of may 2011

By the look on Cal's face, May was a good month for us.  What a happy kid.  I love that he is 15 months here.  He looks like he's about 4.  I think it's because of the teeth.  What a big happy boy!!!
Let's see what we did at the end of the May 2011...

::: Sea World.  Big surprise.  Love Til's swimsuit.  Love Cal's ensemble.

the gazelle run. love it.
wow, he is too cute in his little hat.

proof that I was there.

who's spying on me?

::: Tillie was playing with their blocks one night and she told me to come look at her Temple.  It was pretty cool to see, and then I heard her say to Calvin, "Hey Bubba, this is a temple. It is a house of God. Do you like it?"
That was a good moment.  I'm glad she is remembering things we are trying to help her learn about.  Had to record it.
The last one is a shot of when they were HAPPILY playing the mini piano together.  That also was a good moment.  I have to remember these good moments, b/c often times they are actually crying and screaming and stealing toys from one another.  Ahhh... the joys.

::: One afternoon we were eating Mac N Cheese for lunch.  A family favorite.
Tillie was messing around with her noodles and rubbing them on her face.  In so many words, I told her that wasn't a good idea to put them on her face... especially in the nasal area.
Well, guess who decided to shove a noodle up her nose?
I tried to get it out, but of course between her sniffing power and me not knowing quite how to get it out... it went UP! out of my tweezer's reach.
I freaked out (on the inside, but stayed calm on the outside) and called Aaron.  Luckily, he worked 5 minutes away and was able to take an early lunch break.  Here he is helping her get it out with his dental instruments.  As he was fishing around up there, he couldn't find the noodle.  hmmm... so, it either fell out on her walk from the high chair to the recliner, or is floating around somewhere in her head.  :/  I think it's the first one.

(mostly) Good times in the month of may, 2011.

New WEBSITE! and post about QUILT MARKET!

Dear friends, comrades, country men, etc.,

So, my little sister, BECCA, and I have been busy. Busy as beavers, one might say.

We created a new website with our forces combined. Becca did most of the decorating and uploading fun. We even have a "PRESS" and "ABOUT" page. Wow. I think it's very exciting. Perhaps you will too.

Here tis:

In case you've tried to go to melimba.com, you'll notice that site isn't up and running anymore. One day I'll get all the quirks worked out to direct THAT site to our new one. But for now, if you want to know about some of the projects we're working on, or see some of the creative things we've been up to, you can go there. We're even starting to blog over there too.

So, if you don't care about things like SCORPIANS, babies, finger painting, house selling, and my normal everyday life---feel free to go to this new site instead for all things crafty, fabric-eee, and such. I won't be offended if you're TOTALLY OVER hearing about Utah trips and the like. :) And, since many of you might not be super into seeing 80 million photos from Quilt Market, I thought I'd spare you and post them over there. Win, win. I think.

Kneader's lunch break in the car during QUILT MARKET. I dream of that place so often. I wish they had some in Texas...

photo taken by me at quilt market---this was Liesl's booth from Oliver + S. She's amazing.

In fact, if you care to know what the International Quilt Market was like, feel free to hop on over! (by the way, I started the post, and then Becca finished it---so in case you get confused in knowing who was writing, you'll know the 411!)

Also, feel free to look around to see some of the prints we've been working on to put in our ETSY shop (which is needing our new logo too). We're going to keep the web address the same: www.melimba.etsy.com ...but now it will feature work from BOTH Becca and Me.

Also, if you need to get your hands on some of our "Rainy Day and Monday" fabric, we have some left in our shop that you can purchase.

So, there you have it.
That's what we've been up to for the last little while.
enjoy!

the time I almost died of fright...

Okay, maybe the post title is a BIT dramatic, but then again, maybe not.

I don't know, where would YOU put this creature on the SCARY scale?
taken from webmd
Yes, it's high on my scary scale.  And, tonight was not the first time I'd run into one.  No sir.  I believe this is the 4th scorpian I've met in my 5 years here in South Texas.  And, did I mention they have all been in MY HOUSE?!?  yes. that's right.  GAG ME!

So, even though it's 12:12 a.m., let's retell the tale.

Imagine me, sitting and humming along to the soundtrack of Country Strong (did not enjoy the movie, but like the music) minding my own business as I finished up some design work.  Fairly normal night.  Everyone was asleep.  I was chipping away at my never-ending list.  Life was good.

Then, Cal wakes up again.  Stinky diaper? loneliness? Ear infection?  Because he is the best sleeper on the planet, I'm confused.  Two hours ago, I was able to hold him, wrap him back up in his snuggly blanket, and get him back to sleep.  Since I was wrapping up on the computer anyway, I decided to go ahead and close up shop so I could attend to the wee lad.

I go into the kitchen and grab some baby pain reliever, thinking, maybe I'll try giving him some to calm him down?---and start flipping off the lights so I won't blast Cal with all the brightness.  As I flip off the light, I notice something move a few feet in front of me on the carpet.
You guessed it---Meet Mr. Scary Scorpian.  Did I just name him?  Yes.  Was he a male?  Do we care? No.
yes, this is the same image taken from webmd

So, I proceed to die inside and then leap back a few feet!  Even though Aaron was in a deep state of sleep and was making weird sounds with his mouth (it happens from time to time--but hey, I talk in my sleep), I opted to wake him up STAT to address the situation.

He sprang to action and I ran to show him the awful beast.  I was jumping and shuddering and leaping from place to place.  Aaron?  Cool, calm, and collected.  Per his usual.  He asked me to get a tupperware---and then thought better of it and decided to go for the kill.  These are big suckers, and I kept asking, "Are you sure?"
He was sure.
Next he requested PAPER TOWELS.  A lot of them.
Gag me.

Between the 5 paper towels and our new glass bottle of STUBBS BBQ sauce---let's just say, Mr. Scary Scorpian is gone.
Aaron is my hero.
(Thank the heavens that he was home!!!)
And, I was finally able to rescue Calvin.
----of course, though, as I went to open Cal's door, I stepped on a Cheerio and lost it all over again!  I think I threw out my back as I leapt across his room.  Scared me to death!

And that is the story of the SCARY scorpian.
May his friends and relatives get the message that Aaron and his BBQ sauce mean business.

middle of may 2011

Here we are in the middle of May 2011.  Good times for the Wood family.
Let's see why:
::: Sea World San Antonio, baby!

this girl is fearless. for the most part.

yes, she is pushing him.  you wanna see how much he liked this game?

yeah.  not much.

love that profile.  love that boy.

again, the crazy Tillie is at it again.  Aaron just let her do her monkey thing and she went for it.  Amazing.

made it.

::: Playground at La Cantera outdoor mall.  They loved this little park.  I love these little faces.

::: Melissa learns how to turn on the bbq all by herself and decides to make hot dogs one evening for dinner when Aaron was working late.  Check out those grill marks.  I'd say that's professional work right there.  Feel free to call me the grill master.  Yes, this was a note worthy event.

::: Random pictures of the kids being crazy and ridiculous.  No, I normally don't let them bring pillows into the kitchen because, let's face it, the kitchen floor isn't always very clean.  Also, feel free to nominate me for MOTHER OF THE YEAR award.  Check out the handle on the frying pan.  Hello?  Why was she allowed to play so close to the stove top?  I'll ask the nanny.  Oh wait...

I guess I decided to shoo them outside next.  Same shirt, different colors.  I'm being economical these days and buying boy shirts for the Til-Meister so that I can kill two birds with one stone as Cal grows up.  Hey, it's better than buying shirts with lots of pink and butterflies on them.

As a side note, the kids love to play outside.  Too bad the weedy grass in San Antonio was killer on their bare feet.  Are these next ones of Tillie upset because of the ouchiness of the grass?  Maybe.  But, doubtful.  I'm sure Calvin wronged her.  This is the Classic Devastated/Wronged Tillie episode.  Horrible to see, I know.

Ahh, yes.  I think Cal was stealing her rocks.  The nerve.  Before we decided to go back inside, I decided to snap a picture of the matchy matchy Crocs.  Again, I'm economical.  What can I say?

::: Another day in the yard, another curly Sue.  I love what the humidity would do to Til's hair.  So cute.  Even cuter?  That outfit she's rockin'.  Yes, I let her pick out most of her outfits these days... well, if we are staying at the house.  If we go anywhere, I'll intervene.

Does anyone else think she looks like a female pro wrestler with those shorts on?  Or maybe it's the combo with the high tops?  I don't know what it is, but I'll say this: it's funny.  If you look through the pictures next, you might think so too.

Man, I love that kook.

Can't forget the Mr. Cal.  What a cheeser he is.  And, would you look at ALL those teeth?!

Man alive, I could write so many captions with these photos, but I'll spare you all.  I just love seeing all their expressions.

same day, same outfits, happily in front of the tv.  They are good tv buddies.

::: Tillie hanging out while we went to check on the progress of the house.  Again, such great style sense.

::: We matched up with some dental school friends.  It was fun to see how everyone was and get filled in on the details of what everyone had been up to for the last year since they'd graduated.  Good times.

again, Tillie loves to control Calvin.  He loves it.  Oh wait...

stink eye at it's finest.

there you have it, middle of may 2011.
