four more sleeps.

IMG_3002
this is a photo of the little buckaroo quilt my mom made for the baby. pretty great, right? i know. she's crazy talented.

I realize that life, as I know it, will come to a screeching halt come Friday. That's right. FRIDAY. This Friday.

This whole SCHEDULED c-section business is totally CRAZY. I mean, who gets a phone call in the middle of the afternoon asking, "What day would you like to have your baby? You get to choose anywhere from the 6th to the 13th?" ---Are you serious? When did you ever get to PICK the day you wanted your child to be born?

It was funny, I had to tell the nurse that I should probably speak with my husband before I gave her a date. She said that would be fine. Yeah, I think if we're gonna pick something, he should be in on it.

We thought we'd go for something FUN and AWESOME like the birthday of 01.10.10 (cool looking), or even RADDER would have been 01.11.10 (where the zeros are the bookends to the date... I was a HUGE fan of that idea. Remember how my birthday is 8.4.84 ?? I know. Lucky. I'm all about cool dates like that.).
But alas, we are going to be boring and choose the 8th (01.08.10). Why? It's an even number, our nephew Caden's birthday, AND it happens to be a Friday = Aaron could be around and not have to miss too much school to be a part of the situation. And, let's face it, I want Aaron to be around AND able to graduate from school. He's come this far...

So, you want to hear about my last OB appointment? Good, I thought so.

I shared only 3 minutes with my doctor. That's right. I was only waiting for about 15 minutes before-hand. It was crazy fast (not the norm).

So, doctor enters (who I really like, by the way).
doc: "Hey, Melissa, how are you feeling?"
me: "Fine. Actually, I really think I could be pregnant for another few weeks... which seems crazy to me."
doc: "Really? You feel that good."
me: "Wait, correction. I COULD be pregnant for another few weeks, but do I WANT to be pregnant for another few weeks? No."

And that's the gospel truth. When I was waiting around for Matilda to be born, I thought I was going to go CRAZY. I was so impatient. I was literally pounding the pavement for days on end (multiple times a day) trying to get her to come ASAP.

This time around? Not so much. I am reeling that there are only "4 more sleeps" until we have this baby.

Oh, funny part about the appointment, as my doctor was leaving, I asked her, "So, is there anything I should know about Friday? Do I just show up?"

Oh, in passing, she MENTIONED that I can't eat anything after midnight on Thursday. HELLLOOOooo? To an eater, that's good information to know.

I mean, I am a big cereal eater (as most of you know) and always start my day with a good bowl or two. Apparently, they would have had to RESCHEDULE the surgery for another day if I had opted to eat that bowl of cereal in the morning.

Yeah, thanks for the details, people.

Anyway, that's all for now. And, maybe, if you are lucky, you'll hear from me again before the big day happens. But, if not, Aaron will be in the wings steppin' up. Rest assured.

Until then, this is Big Bertha, signing off.

Good luck!! We are having babies close to each other. I am due on the 15th, so expecting baby any day now. I totally get what you mean by "4 more sleeps." I am not doing anything to will this baby out. He can take his time.

Good luck with the c-section.

I LOVE it! BIG BERTHA. I used to refer to myself as "large and in charge". But I don't believe you. You didn't get very big with Matilda and in your pics you don't look big either. I hope everything goes speedy and well! I can't wait to see this little guy's pics!

Wow - Congrats! I hope everything goes so smoothly. I've had 4 scheduled c-sections. They are pretty interesting. One of my friends said for sure not to fudge on the eating/drinking thing since she barfed all through the c-section from having fluids in her stomach. Ick! Happy recovery and enjoy that sweet newborn. p.s. your art work is most darling!!!
