need some help here

ok, quick question that i'd really like everyone's help on...

yesterday was jan 11, 2011... the day before melis and i have been married for 6 years.  i was at work and was given a random box in that color tiffany & co puts everything in (melissa just said tiffany blue).

i walked into the doctor's lounge and the other dentist was there with my office manager and my office manager was saying "let's see if dr. wood has the same reaction as you..."

i said, "oh great, it's my anniversary tomorrow"... the other doc had just said he was glad he had something for valentine's day now.

anyway...

today when i got home from work i gave melissa the box and she was all super excited and everything and was telling her friend how great it was that i did something unexpected and she was so happy.  unfortunately she had to leave the house right then and couldn't finish opening it until she got home.

when she got home she was still so happy i'd thought of her on our special day.  "i can't believe it!" she kept saying, "what?!... this is great... why did you do this!?"

as she finally got the package open she got to this:

finally at this point she's still saying she can't believe i'd thought to do something like this in advance and it's not like me or anything and why did i do this... i didn't really know what to say.

so i just said i got it at work the other day and hadn't even opened the box yet.

which leads me to the big question...

Rude or Funny?

please vote and leave it in the comments.

sorry to throw you under the bus, aaroneous. but i definitely vote rude. there are a few things you don't joke about in marriage:

1) awesome anniversary presents
2) and pretty much anything else that's awesome.

BUT, i give you credit for airing your dirty laundry on the world wide web :)

happy anniversary, you two lovebirds! a darling couple indeed!!

Both. Rude to play a joke and get her hopes up - but it is a funny joke.
But now you know you owe her big! (Like something pretty that comes in a tiffany blue box)

I don't know what to vote because I am still way confused. Was there really that rectangular box inside the box? Did someone actually pay $75?
Normally I would say funny but because it was the anniversary I would say rude. However, Melissa's wildest dreams don't really revolve around a tiffany blue box so I don't think something from there really would have made her that happy.

That's not really a hard one. Rude. Let's just say I'm reading this thinking, "I'm glad I'm not married to Aaron". Which really isn't fair, because you shouldn't be defined by this one "joke", but that's the impression the story gives.

And as for Jordan, how would you like it if it was your anniversary and Jandee handed you tickets to every Jazz game this season....Psych, those are actually 40 tickets to The Nutcracker

Sorry Aaron, I'm sure you are a dedicated, sweet, romantic husband and Melissa couldn't be luckier, unless you actually got her a real anniversary present.

I say "inexperienced" which works out to be funny....sorry Melissa.

Aaron, give yourself a few more years and you'll figure it out, Stevey did.

Happy Anniversary!

funny as long as you follow through and get it.

When in doubt say "yes dear."
I think the deciding factor will be your "come back" gift. If you bomb, it goes on the books as rude. Pull off something good and you get funny points. Good luck with that.

rude is kinda harsh. kinda mean though to leave her hanging and all excited to get home to open it. the joke should have been played out all at once. but yeah, i am confused too as to why you were given that. was it from a patient? why would someone buy something so random and useless for so much money?

I know I am way behind on the voting - but I wouldn't say rude..more sad. If Russell gave me that I would be sad - like 'wow - he thinks I am an 80 year old woman'. But seriously the present itself is hilarious! Who in their right mind who ever buy such a thing?

hhhmmm, I suppose I'm not with the majority of the populous voters here... If it's taken rudly, it's only because he didn't REALLY go out and get her something for the anniversary. BUT, he had already seemed to prove that he's not the anniversary-gift-buying type, so that was to be expected. Therefore, that makes it fine. Not even funny, He didn't seem like he was waiting for her to laugh her head off at some hideous jewelry box.
He got a freebie, he thought of her. that equals kind, and thoughtfulness. I think I am more to blame on Melissa's reaction when she got home anyway, we talked about it, I think she got a little dreamy, because we talked about gifts, and some really sweet things TJ has done for me, but there have definitely been failures. ANd he brings me freebies home from work all the time (just as expensive and nice sometimes) and it's cute in a funny sort of way, and heck, sometimes, it's cool, to get a rad freebie!

Make it up to her somehow, but it most definitely wasn't rude. Sorry Meliss. ;)
