ok, let's talk real life here for a minute.
when you have a sore throat, and you know it probably will be turning into a full fledged cold, what do you do? do you start taking decongestants right away? do you pop in a "throat lozenge", call it good, and wait for the inevitable? just curious to know if pre-emptive (sp?) measures, like taking decongestants, will make the cold go away before it gets too hairy.
And, while we are on the subject what do you take when? For example, when I was pregnant and sick with a cold, my doctor told me to take some decongestants, like Sudafed, AND also stuff like Mucinex. Now, I do not profess to know much in the medicine department, but don't decongestants help to (pardon the gross-ness) help to make the liquid dry up a little bit, and then doesn't Mucinex help to break up the yuck to make it more liquidy?
This is disgusting. My eyes are watering just thinking about it. And, does any of this make any sense?
So, my conclusion is to do one or the other... but taking both seems like nonsense. Any one want to enlighten me?
p.s. thanks to the Mucinex character. I thought you all would appreciate the sick picture.

You are most, most welcome for the Boston itin. Yes, it did take time, but only the best for you my dear! Looks like I have much to catch up on your life, it will have to be done in the days to come. Cute pics!!! Looks like motherhood is treating you well! Talk soon! xoxo
That is how I know I am getting sick as well... I get a sore throat.I go to like whole foods or somewhere and get vitamin C tablets or, silver drops or probiotics, anything to help your immune system fight off whatever is trying to come about. Also try and rest a little bit while taking those things so your body can fight it off. And drink lots of water. Anyways that is my two cents. So hope you feel better soon!
Sleep every chance you get and drink orange juice all day and night. Nips it right in the bud.

I do not know how that posted three times. Best of luck with the yuck.
When I feel that "tickle" in my throat and know what is coming, I immediately start taking Cold Eeze cough drops...they aren't just cough drops but full of immunity-building stuff to help fight colds..it's proven to reduce a cold by 3-5 days! Also, I take "Airborne" for the same thing, it just gives you lots of cold-fighting stuff. You definitly want to get those when you go to the store!! Both in the colds aisle...and about the medicines, i've taken Mucinex just alone and it felt like it didn't do anything, at least with the symptoms..it was probably doing stuff deep down but I still felt sick and everything hurt. I recommend Sudafed PE, Severe Cold, because it covers body aches, sore throat and cough and nasal and sinus congestion (I'm reading the box right now...lol) It's the purple-colored box. Sudafed does WONDERS!! So you could take both Sudafed and Mucinex but if you're worried about all that, just take Sudafed.
K, i'm a pro with colds and whatnot because I have a really really bad immunity and I ALWAYS get sick and I hate being sick so i've found some great stuff. And yes, drink TONS of water and just get rest!! I just got over a pretty bad cold a few weeks ago so I can feel your pain still. Any questions, you know my email :)
Hey Meliss, seriously, Tillie is the cutest thing ever!!!! I haven't checked up on your for a while and she has grown A TON, she's DARLING!!!
Try this! It really works when you just started to have the tickle feeling in your throat. Get a cold sprite from the fridge, you dont have to put ice in it. Add a little salt and squeeze some fresh lemonade into the sprite & drink it. It will soothe your throat.
Cold Eeze and Airborne at what we swear by around here. Take it at the very first signs and drink tons of water.
I would watch out for Airborne

So if you used it you can get your money back.
raw garlic kills germs in your system as does grapefruit seed oil. fresh lemon juiced squeezed into hot water (with honey, if you like) is also really good for sore throats and moving colds along. and vitamin C!!! as much as you can stand.
I also hit the ginger and spiralina. I can't tell you why, but it seems healthy. If I do all these things, I almost always nip the cold in the bud.
Natural is better than taking pills 0r tablets!
